The Other Side of the Sign

The Other Side of the Sign

I was meeting a great friend for coffee yesterday morning. We always meet at Julia’s Coffee, which is right next to the Habitat for Humanity ReStore.

As I was walking in the door, I saw this sign (see picture). I started cracking up.

I went inside and the guy behind the counter who’d done the sign said, “So, you like my sign?”

I said, “Love it. That’s really clever.”

The sign isn’t fancy, but neither is Julia’s. Julia’s Cafe is a great place to get a cup of coffee, support a cause, and frankly be reminded that Jesus hung out with a lot of people who are like the side of the sign in the picture. That’s what He was really great at. It made the very religious people—who often considered themselves cool—pretty uncomfortable in those days.

I go to Julia’s to get a great cup of coffee, but I also go there because I need to be a little more uncomfortable these days. Don’t misunderstand me: there are some really cool people at Julia’s. What I love about it is that I also see people in my town that I wouldn’t normally see. Just sayin’.

For you curious ones. . . Yes, I went around to the other side, saw it, and took a picture of that, too. But I’m not posting the other side of the sign. You’ll have to stop by Julia’s and ask for Alex, since he’s the one who did the sign. Tell him the guy who said he was going to blog about this sent you. :)
